So you could probably say that I have been doing this for a while now. I say that not to brag or boast but to simply say that I have seen the good (athletes getting fitter), the bad (athletes getting hurt or not advancing) and the ugly (the lack of mobility and movement) of an athlete. In order to become a better CrossFitter, the following two should be considered.
- It’s pretty simple and most coaches would agree that nutrition is at the bottom of the pyramid when it comes to how your body performs. The bottom being that everything else is built off of what you put in your body. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for an enhanced physique or increased performance; you must evaluate your nutrition. You can’t out train a poor diet and you cannot expect a better-looking body without talking food. So you may have some initial change, but if you’re looking to become even better, then you must consider how you’re FUELing your body.
- Your mobility determines quite a bit of what you’re able to do or not do. This is important as a CrossFitter because we are challenged in many different capacities. We have all more than likely come across a WOD where there was a movement that we couldn’t perform, not because of a lack of strength, but due to our range of motion. It can be quite discouraging. You look to your left and see someone else doing it so easily and then there is you :/ Lack of mobility with additional force/resistance is a recipe for disaster. If you want to know one way to hurt yourself, there it is. Movement dysfunction can take away from you advancing as an athlete and even more importantly it can lead to injury. It is up to you as an athlete to address these issues.
There you have it, two of the most important
things to consider if you want to become better at this sport. Here at CrossFit Dover we are always looking for ways to help our athletes to become better. We have attempted to do this in several different ways, and we are excited to announce the introduction of these two new programs to help!
